Student Opportunities

UC Santa Cruz is a global research university with an uncommon emphasis on undergraduate research and education. We are part of the world’s most celebrated system of public higher education and stand among the most renowned institutions of higher learning. Nearly two-thirds of our student body are people of color and 35 percent are first-generation college students, reflecting the diversity of our state and our nation. UCSC is among the top 15 universities in the country for students focused on making a difference in the world; many of our students seek to effect change through professions that cross national and cultural boundaries. Some are working toward roles in international relations or in direct collaboration with Middle East and North African scholars. They also eagerly incorporate the new language courses to deepen their connections to their families or increase their effectiveness in their chosen career path.

In addition to study abroad opportunities, and our minor in Middle Eastern and North African Studies, CMENA cultivates active student engagement through a Student Choice lecture series, grants for travel and Arabic study, and a number of social events throughout the year.
